National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme
The National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme (NICNAS) is a statutory scheme administered by the Federal Department of Health. NICNAS assesses the risks of industrial chemicals and provides information to promote their safe use.
The Australian Chamber has an appointed representative on the Strategic Consultative Committee (SCC) who advises the Director of NICNAS on strategies for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of NICNAS operations in achieving the objects of the Industrial Chemicals (Notification and Assessment) Act 1989.
Industrial chemicals of focus include chemicals used in inks, plastics, adhesives, paints, glues, solvents, cosmetics and soaps.
