Overdue WA re-opening welcome

18 Feb 2022 |

The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) welcomes the WA Government’s decision to end its two years of isolation.

“Western Australia’s reopening is overdue but very welcome news” ACCI chief executive Andrew McKellar said.

“The reopening date set for March 3 provides businesses with much needed certainty and the opportunity to prepare for interstate and overseas arrivals.

“With WA businesses facing acute supply chain constraints and crippling labour shortages, these changes could not have come soon enough.

“It will also end the suffering and anguish families separated by the border have experienced over the last two years.

“Now that we have a date it’s vital that the WA Government sticks to the plan. Many businesses have sustained large financial losses due to the impact of the delay.

“With international borders set to reopen in just a few days, Australia needs a united approach to managing COVID without restrictions differing across the country.”
