Steady growth in employment is good news

The positive news delivered by the ABS Labour Force figures today is a welcome boost to business confidence, Australia’s largest and most representative business voice, the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said today.
“In these increasingly uncertain times, both politically and in the global economy, the continuation of steady jobs growth in December and continued downward trend in unemployment is reassuring,” Acting Australian Chamber CEO, Jenny Lambert, said.
“To see the unemployment rate at 5% both in trend and seasonally adjusted terms is particularly positive.
“With the addition of 21,600 new jobs over the past month, and underemployment slightly down, trends are heading in the right direction.
“In an election year, it is even more important that Australian businesses remain confident about the health of the Australian economy and their prospects for growth.
“Growth in jobs delivers real outcomes to those Australians who have been looking for ways to get back into the workforce.”
