The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Lindsay as the Manager of Australian Chamber – Tourism, the leading voice of Australia’s growing tourism sector.

James Pearson, CEO of the Australian Chamber, said: “We are excited to welcome Richard Lindsay to manage Australian Chamber – Tourism. Richard brings to the role nearly three decades of experience in government and the private sector.

“Australia’s tourism sector is the export hero of our economy, employing around 925,000 people. I am confident Richard will strengthen Australian Chamber – Tourism’s position in representing the nearly 270,000 businesses across accommodation, food services, retail trade and transport that make up this vital part of our community.”

John Hart, Chair of Australian Chamber – Tourism, said: “Tourism contributes $53 billion a year to the Australian economy, but our sector does not yet get the attention it deserves. I look forward to working with Richard to draw the attention of key decision-makers in government to the concerns of tourism businesses.

“Informed by our growing network of members, Richard will build upon the work done by Steve Whan as the inaugural Manager of Australian Chamber – Tourism.”

Richard Lindsay, incoming Manager of Australian Chamber – Tourism, said: “I am honoured to advocate on behalf of Australia’s growing tourism businesses. The sector benefits from a strong and united voice to government and the community, and I look forward to leading that effort.

“It is great to join the team at the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, whose network includes more than 300,000 businesses across Australia employing more than 4 million people.”

Prior to his appointment to Australian Chamber – Tourism, Richard Lindsay held positions in industry, government and advocacy, most recently as the Executive Director at the Council of Capital City Lord Mayors and Chief Executive Officer at the Urban Development Institute of Australia.
