“Assurances from gas suppliers that they are able to meet domestic demand are encouraging and households and businesses hope this supply comes at affordable prices.
“The ideal scenario is for increased supply of gas without the need for government interventions such as the threat of direct export restrictions.
“It’s now time for state and territory governments to lift their game and lift the blanket bans on gas exploration and development that are holding back development of more gas to supply the domestic market.
“State and territory governments need to work with the Federal Government to deliver a nationally coordinated and consistent energy policy that encourages investment in production of gas and other energy resources.
“Business is clear – energy prices are too high for many firms. Industry and governments need to work together to ensure Australian business remains competitive.”
