Australian Chamber Responds to Labor Tax Policy Repeal

29 Jun 2018 |

Today’s decision by the Opposition Leader and his leadership team to back tax cuts for businesses up to $50million turnover is a step forward for business, the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry said today.

“We credit the Opposition for responding to the considerable concern in the community at the prospect that taxes on many small, medium and family businesses would be increased under Labor,” Australian Chamber CEO, James Pearson, said today.

The Australian Chamber, Australia’s largest and most representative business group, had made clear the concerns of business at the impact that would have had.

“It would have introduced significant uncertainty, not to forget the fact that the last thing business needs is a tax hike,” Mr Pearson said.

“We are disappointed Labor does not intend to honour in full those tax cuts which have been legislated but not yet implemented.

“We will continue to advocate for a more competitive tax rate for all Australian businesses and to work with all parties to back policies which advance Australia’s international competitiveness.”
