Australian Chamber welcomes decision to lift fracking ban in Northern Territory

17 Apr 2018 |

The decision to lift the ban on fracking in the Northern Territory has been welcomed by the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

“The lifting of the moratorium will instil a sense of confidence back into the NT business community, as the government has proven it will listen to science as well as the needs of all Territorians when it comes to affordable energy,” Australian Chamber CEO, James Pearson, said.

“The NT can now look forward to a re-energized economy, and the jobs and investment that will follow such a significant common-sense decision, as well as the relief this will provide the National Gas Market.

“We congratulate our colleagues at the Chamber of Commerce NT for their advocacy efforts on this important issue.”

The NT Government made the decision on the basis of accepting the 135 recommendations in Justice Rachel Pepper’s independent Scientific Inquiry into Hydraulic Fracturing of Onshore Unconventional Reservoirs in the Northern Territory, received by the government last month.
