EU Negotiation Status

Trade Minister Don Farrell will return to Australia without concluded free trade agreement negotiations, after European Union counterparts have been unwilling to provide agricultural market access and compromise on geographical indicators that are acceptable to Australian negotiators.

The negotiation of a free trade agreement with the European Union – a market of 445 million consumers and our third largest goods and services trade partner as a bloc – promises to deliver an improved trading environment for Australian business across a wide range of sectors.

Negotiators will meet again in August.

The transcript of Mr Farrell’s press conference from Brussels covering the current state of negotiations is available here.
