The importance of retaining mature aged workers in the workforce has long been offered as a partial solution to labour and skill shortages. Yet relatively few businesses in industrialised countries have successfully adopted policies and practices to take full advantage of this opportunity. Australia, in common with most developed countries, has been warned for many years about looming labour and skill shortages caused by an ageing of the population.
